About

The Maternal and Infant Vitality Initiative (MIVI) is a program of the Ohio Department of Children and Youth that works to improve birth outcomes and reduce disparities in infant mortality across Ohio.

Infant mortality refers to the death of a baby before their first birthday. It is an important measure of a community's overall health and well-being.

Through this initiative, the Ohio Department of Children and Youth partners with 10 counties that experience higher rates of infant mortality. Summit County was selected as one of these partner counties due to its elevated infant mortality rate.

The Maternal and Infant Vitality Initiative focuses on improving access to care, supporting healthy pregnancies, promoting safe infant care practices, and addressing factors that contribute to differences in birth outcomes among communities. By working with local organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners, the initiative aims to help more babies reach their first birthday and support healthier families throughout Summit County.
