7-17-26 Air Quality Statement
Jul 17, 2026
Health effects from short-term exposure to elevated levels of particle pollution, like the region is currently experiencing, can range from relatively minor (eye and respiratory tract irritation) to more serious impacts such as increased asthma symptoms and cardiovascular health concerns.
Because impacts can vary widely, it is important that individuals use discretion based on their health concerns when considering any sort of prolonged outdoor activity (work or leisure). SCPH recommends people undertake any outdoor activity with careful consideration for their personal health and that of their companions. Additionally, SCPH recommends individuals discuss their specific health concerns with their health care team to better understand their personal risks.
